To improvethe gender balance in the field, SERVIR-HKH promotescapacity-building activities in GIT for women. As part ofthis, the International Centre for Integrated MountainDevelopment (ICIMOD), in partnership with the RoboticsAssociation of Nepal (RAN), will conduct a four-daytraining on “Empowering Women in Geospatial InformationTechnology (GIT)” under its SERVIR Hindu KushHimalaya (SERVIR–HKH) initiative.

The training will provide theoretical and hands-on practicalsessions on: earth observation for societal benefits, GITapplications in the HKH, concepts of remote sensing andGIS, gender perspectives in GIT, GIS operation andmapping using open source tools, python coding, andusing the Google Earth Engine cloud computingenvironment to solve emerging environmental problems. The training will also cover science communication andthe importance of engaging women in the GIT workforce.
